TWIN HOISTS FOR HOLLOW CORE SLAB LIFTING
United Precast Concrete (UPC) is one of the factories behind the flow of building materials that are central to construction projects in the Middle East. With factories in Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UPC produces precast concrete elements such as hollow core slabs, foundations, columns, beams and wall panels. For their production facilities in United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi and Dubai), UPC sought quality lifting equipment to support a reliable production process.
AROUND-THE-CLOCK HEAVY LIFTING
United Precast Concrete’s production process relies heavily on overhead cranes to lift precast elements of varying sizes during 24-hour operating days. Heavy parts like hollow core slabs with spans of up to 21 meters have to be lifted and transported safely
DUAL-HOIST SYNCHRONIZATION
Konecranes supplied more than 40 overhead cranes of varying lifting capacities to UPC’s factories in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Synchronized dual-hoist cranes were installed to enable the safe lifting of long hollow core slabs without load rotation. Furthermore, higher crane traveling speeds of 100m/min are provided for long travel of the crane in the casting bay, in order to cope with the curing time of the concrete mix
SAFER AND MORE EFFICIENT CONCRETE LIFTING
Roughly 400-500 precast concrete elements of varying sizes are produced daily which translates into 1250 tons of lifting. Single- and double-girder cranes are used for a faster and more efficient production process.
As the production process relies so heavily on cranes, the reliable on-time delivery of spare parts is vital for a smooth operation. Chief Production Manager Victor D’Souza appreciates the timely and cost-effective deliveries. “They offer a wide range of delivery options for us, so we can choose the most convenient. Sometimes, we collect the parts from the Parts Distribution Center ourselves, but most often the delivery is arranged through a courier service,” says D’Souza. “All in all, what sets Konecranes apart is that they proactively and consistently deliver quality products and service.”
